About Kurt Talmadge Lawton

Kurt is a native of Augusta, Georgia, and a 2010 graduate of the University of Arizona, where he was a member of the wheelchair rugby team. After graduation, he returned to Georgia to attend Mercer University School of Law in Macon. He earned his J.D. in 2014 and was a member of the Phi Delta Phi Legal Honor Society. Kurt is licensed to practice law in both Georgia and South Carolina.

Before joining Ashby Jones & Associates LLC, Kurt operated Lawton Law Office, LLC, in Martinez, Georgia, as a solo practitioner. Over the years, his practice has included personal injury and probate matters, but his primary interests have remained family law and advocating for abused and neglected children involved in DFCS and DSS cases.

Born with a disability, Kurt learned early the importance of adapting to challenging circumstances and approaching problems from different perspectives. He brings that same adaptability to his legal practice, often thinking outside the box and looking for creative ways to use the law to accomplish his clients’ goals.

Kurt is also deeply involved in the Augusta community. He is an active member of his church and serves on the boards of Campus Outreach Augusta and GAP Ministries, an organization dedicated to serving people experiencing homelessness and other vulnerable members of the Augusta community.

Outside the office, Kurt enjoys spending time with his wife, Katie, traveling, reading, watching baseball, and maintaining what he readily admits is a slightly obsessive relationship with University of Arizona basketball.
