A Note on This Series

From your Divorce Coach, with love

For more than two decades, I have sat across from women and men in the middle of these seasons. Real women. Real men. Real questions, asked in moments when they needed someone to say yes, this is hard, and yes, here is something you can try.

I have been answering them, one woman and one man at a time. Mostly in this office. Sometimes over coffee. Always one to one.

Today I am starting something new here on the blog. A small series of letters. I am calling them Letters to Her and Letters to Him.

Each letter responds to a situation I have seen more times than I can count. A custody exchange that went sideways. A 3 a.m. text. A child’s birthday claimed by the other parent. A Mother’s Day that came too hard. A father standing in his own kitchen wondering what to do with the rest of the night.

The names are not real names. The cities are not real cities. The situations are composites of the real ones I have sat with, year after year. The voice is mine. The tools I am offering are the ones I have watched work, again and again, for the real people who have sat across from me in this office.

Letters to Her speak to the women carrying this season. Letters to Him speak to the men. The experience of a high-conflict divorce or custody battle is in many ways the same for everyone, but the specifics of how it lands, where it locks in your body, what your evening looks like, those differ. The letters are tuned to that.

These letters are short on purpose. They are meant to be read once, then folded and kept in your pocket. Pulled out when you need them. Used like the tools they are.

This new series sits within our larger Practical Tools for the Hard Moments series, which began with The Three Breaths Method. There will be more. One small tool at a time. One letter at a time. For as long as it is useful.

If you are in the middle of one of these seasons right now, you are not alone. I am writing to you.

With love,

Tobia
